Lack of Windows update group policy for Win 10/11 - "Reschedule Automatic Updates"

Hello, is there an equivalent policy for "Reschedule Automatic Updates shceduled installations" for Windows 10 or 11? Currently, we have no way to use group policy to schedule updates for users who missed updates, which results in PCs missing updates for several months.

We have the latest ADMX templates, and the policy is showing in the "Legacy Policies" section and only works on Windows 7 or lower.

    Hi Trevor Harris-A,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

The Group Policy Editor allows users to configure the automatic update policy in more detail.

Navigate to "Computer Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "Windows Components" -> "Windows Update ".

Here, you can find several policy settings related to automatic updates, such as "Configure Automatic Updates", "Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location", and so on.

With these settings, users can configure the behaviour of automatic updates, including the time interval for update checking, timing of installing updates, etc. Note, however, that these settings do not directly provide the ability to "reschedule" updates, but rather allow the user to adjust the frequency of checking for updates and the conditions under which they are installed.

    Best regards

    Neuvi Jiang

Unfortunately my testing has shown the group policy does not work for Windows 10 or 11. There doesn't seem to be a registry key that WIndows 10 or 11 can interpret to allow a similar functionality either. Seems a bit silly for Microsoft to take away something that is so obviously incredibly useful!

There are similar questions asked on other forums and consensus seems to be that Microsoft relies on Intune, SCCM, and other 3rd party tools to allow this functionality.
