Hello,

Is it a local account or a Microsoft account name you changed? What is the difference between a Microsoft account and a local account - Microsoft Community. What's the error message prompt?

Starting your device in Safe Mode can help troubleshoot sign-in problems.

To restart in Safe Mode:

  1. Restart your device by selecting Power > Restart. When you see the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key while you select Power > Restart
  2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an optionscreen, select TroubleshootAdvanced optionsStartup SettingsRestart
  3. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. The preferred option is to select 5or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking

Or sign in with a built-in admin account How to activate the built-in administrator on Windows 10 - Microsoft Community, after you signed in, review your account details in User Accounts by type netplwiz in search box .

I hope this information helps.

Honestly, good for you for taking the time to give a serious and thorough reply to this question... I admire this level of patience.

I would start by saying this question is not specified with any useful level of detail to give a proper answer. One could speculate the most likely meaning is the user changed the username for the default administrator account on their computer and can no longer log in. This would necessarily require the improper use of "PC name" which is obviously not the same as a user account, but these are probably safe assumptions for the average user.

Given all of that to be true, if one changes the login credentials of the default account, in 99% of cases this will be the one and only administrator account that was created on installation. Next time write it down or something..

Good news: simple enough to remedy, there are a few paths to solve, personally I would just get a working command prompt to appear at the login screen (utilman.exe <-> cmd.exe comes to mind) and "net user administrator /active:yes"

Done, now fix the other account until it works and remove the default admin (or at least give it a password please!)

Bad news: this is probably not as easy as it sounds to someone that hasn't spent 20 years dealing with IT :)
