Using two network adapters

I’m using a CCTV application on Server 2019 and connected two network adapters to a switch, assigning both IPs from the same subnet. In the application, I configured one IP to receive data from the cameras and the other to send data to clients and storage. However, after migrating the server from 2012 R2 to 2019, only one NIC is working for sending and receiving data, while the other is not transmitting or receiving any data. Is there any configuration missing on the Windows side?

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on your description, here are the key configuration areas that may need to be checked and adjusted:

    1. Make sure the binding order of the network adapters is set correctly. Windows prefers adapters based on the binding order, which affects how traffic is routed.
    2. Having two NICs in the same subnet can cause problems with routing and network traffic distribution. Windows uses metrics to prioritize network adapters. If the two NICs are on the same subnet and have the same metric, Windows may not be able to distinguish which NIC should be used.

You can manually set the metrics for each adapter. Lower measures have higher priority. Make sure the metrics are different to help Windows distinguish between the two NICs.

    1. Check the routing table to ensure that the traffic is routed correctly.
    2. If your hardware and OS version supports NIC Teaming, consider using it. NIC Teaming allows multiple network adapters to be combined into a single logical NIC, providing redundancy and potentially improving load balancing.
    3. Make sure your network adapter's drivers and firmware are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues.
    4. Check the network configuration of the CCTV app to make sure it uses the specified IP address and adapter correctly.

In addition, we also recommend that you consult the support team of CCTV app for more professional troubleshooting steps.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,

    Jill Zhou
