How to get access between folders on 2 pc's

To preface I have followed this guide

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cant-see-other-computer-on-network/8ea267ad-e5bf-4019-8b7e-da5b174d0303 I have two computers, I will call my main 1 and my secondary 2. Pc 1 is in my office and 2 is in the living room being used as a media centre, I want to be able to upload media from pc 1 to 2. Both PCs are connected via ethernet to the router.

I have set up shared folders on PC 2 with all the necessary permissions available as seen in the guide however they are not visible on the network from PC 1 (the computer doesn't show up in File Explorer either). Pc 2 on the other hand can see Pc 1 on the network. Another thing to note is if I set up media streaming on either of the PCs it is visible on both PC 1 and 2 as media devices. Both computers are running the latest version of Windows 10.

I have tried doing network resets on both computers, it showed both pc's as available then when I tried to access my files it asked for a password (despite password sharing being turned off), then input the password to my outlook account which is signed in on both computers which it said was wrong (it wasn't).

If I could have some assistance I'd appreciate it but with how this experience has been so far I'm considering switching operating systems entirely.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft support.

Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the mapped drive is not showing up on the network computers. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check if the network discovery is turned on for all the computers on the network. To do this, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings > Turn on network discovery.
    2. Make sure that the mapped drive is shared with the correct permissions. Right-click on the mapped drive and select Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Permissions. Make sure that the appropriate users or groups have the necessary permissions to access the mapped drive.
    3. Check if the firewall is blocking the mapped drive. Make sure that the firewall is configured to allow file and printer sharing. To do this, go to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall > Check the box next to File and Printer Sharing.
    4. Try accessing the mapped drive using the IP address of the file server instead of the hostname. For example, instead of typing \servername\sharedfolder, try typing \192.168.1.1\sharedfolder.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue.

    Regards,

    Zunhui
