Hi, i have problems on my Windows 10 Enterprise installation with some Updates.

The situation is as follows:
i cant install KB5040427 for an 0x800f0900 Error.

So i first tried the good ol known commands

sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth which both fails to components.

cbs.log states the following:

Is there any way how i, with full local administrative Rights, despite the organizational Active-Directory on my Machine, can restore thos mismatching, missing, or corrupt manifests?

I tried to mount a install.wim from an Enterprise Installation ISO and use that as the dism restore source... But it failed. And i dont know for sure what i have to enter for dism to use, do i need to navigate to the winsxs folder or the windows folder inside the wim?

I also tried to download KB5020872 but it also failed with the same error.

I assume the errors would get resolved if i get these corrupted manifests situated. The File itself has the correct size as the original. But all it's content got replaced with the same "character" ^@... which is why the hash is invalid.

IS there anything i can do without fully reinstallation (and... therefor changing my working machine to windows 11 and have to resetup everything i need for work (My Password-Store on pass on my WSL2 for example... would be one of the easier but annoying tasks)

Have a great day and thanks for your suggestions.

    Hello Shen Long,

thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community Forums.

Unfortunately, log file analysis has been out of this forum. However, to resolve the error code 0x800f0900, here are some additional steps you can try:

    1. Check Windows Update Services: Ensure that the necessary services for Windows Update are running.
      • Press "Win + R", type “services.msc”, and press Enter.
      • Look for the following services and make sure they are running:
        • Windows Update
        • Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
        • Cryptographic Services
        • Windows Installer
If any of these services are not running, right-click on them and select "Start".
    2. Reset Windows Update components by following the steps in Additional resources for Windows Update - Windows Client | Microsoft Learn.
    3. Check Group Policy Settings: Since you are part of an Active Directory, group policies might be affecting the update process. Review any relevant group policies related to Windows Update:
      • Press "Win + R", type “gpedit.msc”, and press Enter.
      • Navigate to “Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update”, review and adjust policies as necessary.
    4. You can try downloading the KB5040427 from Microsoft Update Catalog and installing it manually.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,

    Lei
