Hi Everyone,

Greetings of the day.

One of our Windows 2016 servers is not accessible over RDP. While checking, I identified that the Remote Desktop Services service is not running. Further investigation shows that the service can't be started, and we are getting the below error.

Windows could not start the Remote Desktop Service service on Local computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found.

I would request the support from anyone to resolve this issue at the earliest.

    Hello  MFP-QTR,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

The error message you're receiving indicates that the Remote Desktop Services service is unable to start due to a missing module.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter: sfc /scannow
    3. Wait for the scan to complete. This may take some time.
    4. Restart your server and try starting the Remote Desktop Services service again.

If the issue persists, you can try reinstalling the Remote Desktop Services role. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open Server Manager.
    2. Click on Add Roles and Features.
    3. Click Next until you reach the Server Roles page.
    4. Select Remote Desktop Services and click Next.
    5. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

Hi Haijian Shan (Shanghai Wicresoft Co Ltd)****,

    Thanks for your response.

I already performed the SFC / scannow, chkdsk, etc., but there was no luck.

During the roles and feature installation, i found the server manager was getting crashed.

Do you think there is anything else I have to check for?
