Hyper-V Time Synchronization Service starting and stopping rapidly after Server ugprade.

Hello,

I recently upgraded one of our virtual servers from Server 2012 R2 Standard to Server 2022 Standard. The upgrade seemed to install fine with no errors and all of our software runs fine.

I was reviewing the logs after the install and the only issue I've noted is that the Hyper-V Time Synchronization Service stops and starts rapidly causing poor system performance. The service stop and starts about 15 times per second (about 30 informational stop and start 7036 event IDs per second). The only way I can seem to get it to stop is by disabling the service.

There is no error. Our software seems to run fine without the service running for the moment. However, overnight and by morning users computers start having issues connecting to the server relating to time sync. Starting the service momentarily then having the users log off and on again restores the connection.

When I set the service back to Automatic (it says Automatic (Trigger Start)), the service does not start right away, but once I manually start it, it does the rapid start stop action until Disabled again.

Anyone have any ideas?

Trevor

    Hi Trevor Matkowski,

it sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the Hyper-V Time Synchronization Service after upgrading to Server 2022 Standard. One possible solution is to try disabling the time synchronization feature in the Hyper-V settings for the affected virtual machines. This can be done by going to the settings of the virtual machine, selecting Integration Services, and unchecking the Time Synchronization option.

Another possible solution is to try updating the Integration Services on the virtual machines to the latest version. This can be done by selecting the virtual machine in Hyper-V Manager, clicking on the Action menu, and selecting Insert Integration Services Setup Disk.

If neither of these solutions work, you may need to consider reaching out to Global Customer Service phone numbers - Microsoft Support for further assistance. They can help diagnose the issue and provide additional solutions or workarounds.

    Hope it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Lei
