Windows Libraries and Windows Search query requests limit

Hello,

We are trying to get away from network drives and looking into some options. Windows Libraries came up but when looking at the supported storage location there seems to be some recommendation about the maximum load not exceeded 4 concurrent query requests. Anybody know that that means? Let's say we have 250 Windows 11 computers. Each computer has a Library pointing to the same network share. Each user would access this share every day to work off of their files throughout the day. Does the "expected maximum load being 4 concurrent query requests" mean actual connected users? Or 4 users connecting to the Library at the same time? Or 4 user's actually trying to do something at the same time like opening up a file? Kind of unclear what this is supposed to mean.

Thank you!

Helllo,

The maximum load of 4 concurrent query requests limit for Windows libraries mentioned in the Microsoft documentation refers to the number of concurrent operations (for example, searching, indexing, or retrieving metadata) that can be processed at the same time against the library. If more than 4 queries are attempted at the same time, performance may degrade or some queries may fail. This is not directly related to the number of connected users or devices.

Best Regards

Zunhui

For clarification, getting away from drive letters. Not network drives. We have too many drive letters in our environment.
