HLK tests did not start on Windows 10 - 32 bit client.

Hello,

I am encountering an issue where HLK (Hardware Lab Kit) tests are not running on a Windows 10 32-bit client operating system. I have ensured that:

  1. The HLK client has been installed correctly.
  2. The client is connected to the HLK controller and is showing as "Ready" in the HLK Studio.
  3. All prerequisites, including the correct drivers and configurations, are in place.

Despite this, when I attempt to run the tests, they either fail to start or remain in a "Ready" state indefinitely.

I have also tried restarting both the client and the controller, but the issue persists.

Firewalls were turned OFF. Sleep and hibernate modes are set to OFF in client. Windows updates were turned OFF.

Could this be related to the configuration of the HLK environment?

Server used: Virtual HLK (VHLK) for Windows 10, version 1809

Client used: Windows 10 - 22H2 x86.

Playlist used: HLK Version 1809 CompatPlaylist x86_x64.xml

Test scheduled: "DF - InfVerif INF Verification" test.

Note: We already tested the drivers on Win10-1809 client, and it worked pretty well and got the signed drivers. Now for testing 22H2 client we used the previous version of HLK kit since the latest 2004 HLK kit did not support 32-bit OS. Is there a known compatibility issue with the HLK and Windows 10 32-bit systems especially for OS builds 2004 or above?

Any guidance or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Mathan

    Hello,

Get the official Windows Hardware Compatibility playlist so you can run the Windows HLK tests that ensure your hardware meets the requirements for compatibility with Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server.

Download the Windows Hardware Compatibility playlist as a zip file

    Hi Zunhui

Thanks for the quick response, currently we are using "HLK Version 1809 CompatPlaylist x86_x64.xml" playlist. When we use this file we don't see any tests getting listed under Windows 10 - 22H2 32bit OS. The same file worked for us with previous versions of Windows 10 32 bit. I downloaded the playlist zip file from your post and I could find additional playlist files for 21/22/23 H2 but all those playlist are either intended for 64bit or ARM versions. We are using Intel platform and we want to run "USB Smartcard Tests" under Windows 10 - 22H2 32bit OS. What version of HCK server and playlist file we should use for this combination?

    Best Regards

    Hi Karthikeyan,

Thanks for your reply. I suggest you use the HLK Version 2004 CompatPlaylist x86_x64.xml playlist to see if it works.

    Best Regards

    Hi Zunhui,

    Hi Karthikeyan,

Thanks for the support and response. Please find below more analysis details.

    1. Verified with Server 1809 VHLK and Client 32-bit Win10-22H2 OS. "Unknown platform" error is observed while choosing the device under test. Error message - “Addition of target failed with:

Cannot create a product instance with an invalid OSPlatform type".

Verified that the WTTService is running. Defender firewall turned OFF. Able to ping the server from client and vice versa.

    Event viewer at this scenario:

    1. Verified with VHLK Server 2004 version and Client 32-bit Win10-22H2 OS. Have chosen the playlist "HLK Version 2004 CompatPlaylist x86_x64.xml playlist". Even after scheduling any one of the tests, the job monitor window shows client PC still in "Ready" state and not moving to "Running" state even after a 5 minutes wait. Network is alive and able to ping the server from client and vice versa.

    Event viewer at this scenario:

Any pointers to resolve this is much appreciated.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Mathan

Hi @Zunhui do you have any further recommendations for us? We tried all applicable combinations of HLK and XML file and it all resulted in failures so far.
