Is anyone else having issues with Server 2016 not downloading patches/updates because the repository is filling up and not properly overwriting the oldest downloads?

Hello    Todd Breidenstein,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

I didn't find any issues related to the repository filling up and not properly overwriting the oldest downloads. However, I can suggest a few troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the issue:

  1. Check the available disk space on the server. If the disk is full, it may prevent Windows updates from downloading and installing.
  2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter. This tool can help identify and fix common issues with Windows updates.
  3. Reset the Windows Update components. This involves stopping the Windows Update service, deleting temporary files, and restarting the service.
  4. Manually download and install the latest Windows updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Regarding the registry key you mentioned, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\VersionedIndex is a registry key that stores information about installed Windows components. However, modifying this key is not recommended unless you have a specific reason to do so and have a good understanding of the potential consequences.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards,

Haijian Shan
