how to share a folder over a home network without user name and password in Win 11

I am trying to setup a computer that has a very large hard drive with my kids. Their Laptops were very cheep and have no hard drive space and due to design issues cannot be upgraded. This PC was sharing the hard drive space BEFORE a windows update of the BIOS. The unit crashed after the update and would not boot up. It took 14 hours to recover the motherboard, but it's up and running?

No matter what I do to share folders, I get a pop up on all their laptop of "Enter network credentials" . I have followed all the normal directions as follow with no changes.

  1. Right-click on the folder
  2. Select Show more options
  3. Select Give access to
  4. Select Specific people
  5. Choose a user on the network or select Everyone to give all network users access

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & internet , and on the right side, select Sharing options. Under Private, select Turn on Network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing. Under All Networks, select Turn off password protected sharing. Tried rebooting with no effect.

Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello,

Based on the information you provided, I suggest you try to modify the group policy to see if it can solve the problem. The steps are as follows:

    1. Press the WIN+R key combination to open the Run window, enter gpedit.msc to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
    2. Navigate to the following location:

    Computer Configuration-Windows Settings-Security Settings-Local Policies-Security Options,

    1. Find Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts on the right, double-click to open, change Classic-to Guest Only-authenticate local users, whose identity is Guest, and restart the computer after confirming.

    Best Regards

    Zunhui

gpedit.msc doesnt work in win 11 HOME edition.

More importantly why doesn't the code follow the configuration setting if the network setting is no password required?
