2024-08 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5042099) CAUSING MY COMPUTER TO CRASH & RESTART????

What is going on??? Anyone else having this issue?

My computer automatically downloaded and installed the updates:

Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5042099)

2024-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5041585)

And now my computer blue screens/crashes and restarts itself what seems every 20 minutes or so with no common activity to trigger it.

As a business owner when i'm in the middle of certain things and my computer reboots itself and I lose what i'm working on its pretty damn frustrating.

Everything was fine before they rolled this junk update out whatever it was for.

Any suggestions or fixes are greatly appreciated.

    Hello, Haydn Webb

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with the recent updates. It must be incredibly frustrating, especially when it disrupts your work. Have you tried uninstalling updates KB5042099 and KB5041585 through Windows settings > Windows Update > Update History? Does the issue still persist after that?

Also, one of the most common causes for blue screens and crashes is outdated or corrupted drivers. When Windows updates, the drivers need to be updated too to maintain compatibility. Have you checked for driver updates on the manufacturer’s official website?

If the crashes continue, you can collect the dump files, upload them to a cloud storage service, and share the link with me. I’ll do my best to help figure out the cause. Dump files are logs that record what happens when Windows crashes. Here’s how you can collect them:

This August 2024 kb5042099 Windows NET framework update has a lot of bugs.

The microphone was no longer recognized and had to be reinstalled.

The battery, which was at 100%, now is no longer recognized by the computer. So even though the battery is working fine the computer does not recognize it come on so I have to stay plugged in.

The power/sleep settings on my computer were completely changed. The computer would turn off completely if not used for 10 minutes. Other power settings issues also

It also appears that this update became a resource hog in terms of usage and CPU.

    it's a terrible update.

It was not ready to be released and should have been checked out more thoroughly as to the bugs and problems it caused downstream after the installation. All these glitches and bugs should have been ironed out before the update was released.

    Hi

Both updates (KB5042099) and (KB5041585) also were installed on my Lenovo Ideapad and the integrated camera started to "freeze" image and turns off after a few minutes of use in Google Meet or Zoom. The camera even disappears from device manager. Trying to solve the issue I upgraded the BIOS (following a suggestion at Lenovo support) and also reinstalled the drivers to the newest versions. But problem still persists.
