Missing driver for an Ethernet Controller - No internet

I installed Windows Server vNext Preview ISO (Canary) - Build 26010.

After opening the Device Manager, I see no driver for the Ethernet Controller.

Device ID is illustrated here - 8086:125C

I attempt to upload a driver (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/706171/785797/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-windows-server-2022.html)

I receive the following message, "The drivers for one or more of the devices failed to install correctly."

I was able to be rid of 4 PCI Device driver errors and the one for SM Bus Controller using this driver download (Intel® Server Chipset Driver for Windows* for Intel® Server Boards and Systems Based on Intel® 62X Chipset), but the ethernet controller is giving me all sorts of trouble.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

UPDATE 1/16/2023 - I have contacted ASUS (the manufacturer of the motherboard) because they seem to have a lot of drivers with missing folders inside of them. For instance, the chipset driver associated with their board is missing Windows 11 folders. They are gonna take a look. Link to Motherboard.

Have you checked the Windows Update?

If drivers are not available in the Windows Update, then make sure report this issue using the Feedback Hub app. Canary build is still under testing and development and such issue are expected and you need to report them , so the Windows Server team would be able to investigate and it. Note that there is no Feedback Hub in Windows Server and you will need to send report using Windows 10 or Windows 11 and select Windows Server and attach log files and other valuable information there.

    Hi there Heather.

I had the same issue with these Intel i226-V network interfaces, could not find a driver anywhere that would enable them.

I followed the link you provided to the Asus drivers for your motherboard, eventhough I don't have an Asus motherboard, I installed the original WHQL driver v11.3.28, and that worked for me! So thank you for posting this.

    Kind regards,

    Jaap

    Glad it helped.

I went through this process a number of times. Once I completely ignored all the missing drivers (out of rage) and it worked anyway, so I'm not quite sure if these alerts are totally valid. My ethernet port never did work, but I was able to get around it using a USB-to-ethernet converter.

If you're running a NUC, be aware that the NUC leg of Intel was recently purchased (January or February) by ASUS, so you need to search the ASUS site for drivers now.
