Change data field on windows security login screen to request a username instead of email address.

I use a remote desktop connection where an email address cannot be used as a login credential. Instead I add a username into the email address data field which is confusing to other users. The Windows login screen clearly asks for an email address. I want it to ask for a username instead.

    Hello  Bob Currer,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

To change the data field on the Windows security login screen to request a username instead of an email address, you can follow these steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type "secpol.msc" and press Enter to open the Local Security Policy.
    3. In the left pane, navigate to Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
    4. In the right pane, scroll down and find the "Interactive logon: Do not display last user name" policy.
    5. Double-click on the policy to open its properties.
    6. Select the "Enabled" option and click OK.
    7. Close the Local Security Policy window.

After completing these steps, the Windows security login screen will no longer display the email address field. Instead, it will display a username field where you can enter your username.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
