fresh install win 11 pro can see shared pc but wont allow me to connect to it

New install of windows 11 pro on local account but then added my Hotmail for login and with file sharing and network discovery and everything else enabled except password I can see the other pc but it tells me I cannot connect to it due to not having permission to use it network error 1208 and sometimes I get a different error which says you cannot access this pc because of your organization security policy block unauthenticated guest access says you cannot access this pc because of your organization security policy block unauthenticated guest access.

Before I restored this pc, I had no problems with connecting to this pc and now no matter what I try I cannot connect to it. When I open my laptop up and use that the laptop has no issues connecting to the other pc and seeing its files. This pc also won't connect to the laptop since it will pop up a login screen for username and password and laptop doesn't have a password on it.

I tried enabling insecure guest logons but that didn't work either so as of now I am at a dead end and cannot figure it out. I also restored windows a second time hoping that would fix it but it didn't.

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on your description, here are some possible solutions

    1. Change advanced sharing settings through the Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center >. Make sure that both Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled
    2. Try modifying the local security policy to allow insecure guests to log in:

Press Win + R, enter secpol.msc, navigate to Local Policies > Security Options.

Find "Network Access: Doesn't allow anonymous access to local accounts" and set it to "Disabled".

Find Network Access: Sharing and Security Model and set it to Classic - On-premises users can access sharing.

    1. Make sure the permissions for the shared folder are set correctly:

Right-click on the folder > Properties > Shared > Advanced Sharing > permissions.

Make sure that "Everyone" or your user account has "Read" or "Full Control" permissions.

    1. Turn off password-protected sharing in the Control Panel.
    2. Make sure File and Printer Sharing is allowed in the firewall.
    3. Try to connect with an IP address
    4. Check in Device Manager that you need to update your network adapter driver.
    5. Use gpedit.msc. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.

Check the policy settings related to network access and sharing. Check the Group Policies related to network access.

    1. Try restarting your router and computer.

If the problem persists, you can check the Event Viewer for more information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,

    Jill Zhou

    Hi Jill,

Thanks for the reply and I was able to get it working by using an older version of win 11 before the last update and once that was installed it all worked again.

I will keep this information to try in the future since I don't want the problem to persist. I did most of it with exception to a couple that I didn't know to try.

Its just weird that an older version works perfect and the newer does not.

Somebody on another forum said that sharing restrictions are tighter and won't allow to share with a computer that is using a local account. Hopefully this isnt the reason this is happening and if it isnt then you might want to let the design team know so they can look for some bugs in the software with the latest iso to download from the windows store.

I'm so sorry I missed your information.
Thanks for sharing your solution, glad to hear that you solved the problem by installing an older version of Windows 11. It is true that updates to the operating system sometimes introduce new security policies or change the behavior of network shares, which can cause problems with previously working functions.

The new version has brought you a bad experience, and I am very sorry. I'll communicate your feedback to the design team so they can investigate potential issues in the latest ISO release.
    Thanks again for your feedback.

I've had exactly the same issue, sharing was working perfectly on our small network, an update stopped it working , no longer accepting the credentials. I rolled back the update but this didn't fix the issue, so I will try and find an older version of Win 11 and see if that fixes it. So very frustrating as Im not an IT expert so just trying to muddle through, never had these issues previously.
