Can you please help with connecting the SMTP server with my HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw printer?

I've probably erroneously connected Hurricane Helene coming through with the sudden inability for my printer to scan to email. I've tried more ways than I can count to fix this. I'm not sure why it won't work after years of working. Was there a Microsoft update? How do I fix this?

Here's what I'm using/done:

  1. my email (hotmail) and password
  2. I've tried both smtp.office365.com and smtp-mail.outlook.com servers.
  3. I've tried ports 587 AND 25.
  4. I've tested with printer scan to email function with email authentication checked and not checked. When I check it, the only option I have is to enter my email and password (which I've done).
  5. I've updated activated both IMAP and POP in my email settings (although I don't know if I need to since my printer uses smtp)
  6. All things in my email service health have a green check. (i can't log into to 365 admin with the admin info for some reason)

As you can tell, I'm all over the map. Do I need to do something with the Microsoft Authentication app on my phone?? I'm just at a complete loss.

I'm getting and "error. the server is not responding. try again later." message. I've seen that message for the better part of a month now.

please help and thank you.

Microsoft Authentication App If your email account uses two-factor authentication, you might need to generate an app-specific password. Here's how to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app:

    1. Download and Install the App:

    2. Set Up the App:

    • Open the app and add your account by scanning the QR code provided during the setup process.
    • Follow the instructions to complete the setup. You can find detailed steps [Here]

Follow the instructions to complete the setup.

    Troubleshooting

    • Check Network Connection: Ensure your printer is connected to the network.
    • Firewall Settings: Make sure your firewall isn't blocking the SMTP ports.
    • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can find updates on the [HP Support page].

If you continue to experience issues, you might want to check the detailed setup guide on the [HP Support page].

Thank you. I completed the steps to set up a app password. I was prompted to enter a website. My printers ip address was not sufficient so I entered http:// and then my printers ip address. Is that the correct address to use? I'm still experiencing a connection/error issue and have tested the 3 troubleshooting ideas you posted. I'm also assuming outlook server still supports scan to email function for my hp mfp m225dw printer (it does not support the new authentication Microsoft rolled out in Sept). Also, to confirm, what outlook server name should I use? I've found a couple online.

    Thank you

I agree about the community and being provided the platform to connect.

I did have a couple questions in my last reply if you could take a look at those and respond. Im still not fully operational.

    Thank you.
