Multi-monitor display-remove display from desktop feature is missing

I run a multi-monitor setup at home with 2 external monitors (3 total displays). On my work laptop, I typically disable the display from my laptop using "Settings>System>Display>Advanced Display - Remove display from desktop toggle" (I do this so I can close the laptop and put it on the side to save space on my desk). I have a new personal laptop running windows 11 PRO and the "Remove display from desktop toggle" is not available. How can I get this functionality

You cannot turn off your main monitor. You need to make a different monitor your main monitor, and then you will have the option to turn it off.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to Multi-monitor display-remove display from desktop feature is missing.

You can try open settings/ Display/ Multiple display, then select show only on 2 (2 is the number corresponding to your external monitor), you can click detect to check number.

Open control panel/ hardware and sound/ power options/ choose what closing the lid does. Set when I close the lid to do nothing.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Hello,

I have 2 external monitors plus the laptop screen. When using multiple monitors, my intent is to extend the display across the multiple monitors. To increase my workspace real estate, display different apps on different monitors, etc. I think your suggestion would limit me to 1 monitor - which would defeat the purpose.

The option to "remove display from desktop" which used to appear on the pick list is no longer there with my new laptop. Ideally, I'd like this option back. Alternatively I'd like to know if I can get it back and/or is there a workaround.
