A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this printer queue.

Getting error message "A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this printer queue. Please contact your system administrator." when trying to access a shared printer.

We've tried everything relevant listed in the below link but nothing works. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/troubleshoot/windows-server/printing/cannot-install-shared-network-printer-locally ,

Background, we're on a peer-to-peer workgroup consisting of 3 computers. No server involved. The computer with the printer attached to it died so we had to get a different computer. Once the drivers were installed on the "new" computer (Computer A), the printer was shared. When the other 2 computers (Computers B&C) in the workgroup tried to access the shared printer, they both got the error message.

Computers B&C were able to access the printer without issue when Computer A's predecessor was sharing it, thus we don't understand what the problem is.

The only real difference is that Computer A is running Windows 7. It's predecessor and Computers B&C are running Windows 10. Could that be causing the issue? If so, is there a workaround?

    Hello,

Your device environment is the Windows client under the workgroup, so the reference document you mentioned does not help you solve the problem. This document mainly responds to the problem of connection between the domain environment and the printer connection on the server.

Based on the configuration of shared printers on the new Windows 7, first of all, it is necessary to re-check the firewall configuration to ensure that the firewall of computer B and C allows printers to be shared by the pass.

Please make sure that all computers have enabled network discovery and file sharing functions. Transfer to "Control Panel" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Change advanced sharing settings" to ensure that "Turn on files and printer sharing" has been enabled.

In addition, local user authority needs to be checked. On computer A, ensure that the shared printer has granted appropriate permissions for users of other computers or "Everyone". You can transfer to the "Printer Properties" > "Security" tab to check the permissions settings.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

    Hi Jacen,

Thanks for your help. I have checked all computers. Their settings already matched your suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Jen

No, it never did work. I found another Windows 10 PC to replaced Computer A and it did work then. I assume it was the difference in Operating Systems.

Sorry, I didn't have better news.
