Snagit printer doesn't work

Hello,

I'm trying to help someone whose Snagit printer stopped working. I haven't been able to find much on this so I'm hoping someone here can help.

It's a Windows 11 laptop in a corporate environment and the Snagit printer was working until the workstation was updated from Snagit 21.4.2 to Snagit 24.0.1.555.

We tried reinstalling SnagIt and that didn't help. The user is trying to print a PDF to SnagIt, and the "Snagit 2024" printer is on the printer list and we can select it but nothing happens. Usually it comes up in the editor, which is installed and seems to otherwise work normally. It's not just PDFs either, it doesn't print from any application. I tried a test page from the Snagit 2024 printer in Printer & Scanners, you can see the test page appear in the print queue for that printer and then it disappears and nothing happens.

I thought maybe there was an old driver but that appears to get removed when you uninstall the application and readded when you install it again. I don't know what else to look at.

What we're trying to do looks something like this

Thanks.

    Hello   Chris_165,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the information you provided, it seems like the issue might be related to the printer driver. You mentioned that the driver appears to get removed when you uninstall the application and re-added when you install it again, but it's possible that there are still remnants of the old driver causing conflicts with the new one.

One thing you could try is completely removing the Snagit printer driver and then reinstalling it. To do this, you can go to the "Devices and Printers" section in the Control Panel, right-click on the Snagit printer, and select "Remove device". Then, go to the Snagit installation folder and look for a file called "SnagitPrinterInstaller.exe". Run this file and follow the prompts to reinstall the printer driver.

If that doesn't work, you can try updating the printer driver. You can do this by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest driver for the Snagit printer.

If the issue still persists, you can try contacting Snagit support for further assistance. They may have additional troubleshooting steps that can help resolve the issue.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

    Thanks.

I gave that a try. It looks like the Snagit driver isn't removed when you uninstall the application. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem.

I do have a ticket open with TechSmith and keep hoping they respond. If I get a fix for this I can post it here so others can see.

    I found a fix!

Here's what I did, in case it helps someone else:

-Close Snagit. Open task manager and click on the Processes tab and make sure there are no SnagIt process running.

-Open the Registry Editor and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt

-Right click the Snagit folder and choose export, and save it to the desktop. This is your back up.

-Once the Snagit folder has been backed up, right click on the SnagIt registry key and choose delete

-try restarting SnagIt and see if it works
