Hi “getting windows ready do not turn off your computer” screen has been going on for ~4 hours. I tried resetting and it did not work. Asked for my 48 character recovery code which I input and it brought me right back to the getting ready screen. I cannot get into my computer to access critical work and personal files. Please help me

    Hello  Do kenppohdb,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Press and hold the power button on your device until it shuts down completely.
    2. Wait for a few minutes and then turn on your device again.
    3. If the "Getting Windows ready" message appears again, wait for a few minutes to see if it progresses.
    4. If it doesn't progress, try booting your device into Safe Mode. To do this, press and hold the Shift key while clicking on the Restart button in the Start menu. This will bring up the Advanced Startup Options menu, where you can select Safe Mode.
    5. Once you're in Safe Mode, try running the Windows Update troubleshooter to see if it can identify and fix any issues with the update process.
    6. If the troubleshooter doesn't work, you may need to perform a system restore or reset your device to its factory settings.

If you have a BitLocker-encrypted device, you may need to enter your recovery key to access your files after performing a system restore or reset. Make sure you have your recovery key handy before proceeding with these steps.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
