Windows emoji panel doesn't work on a remote desktop connection

The Windows emoji panel will be shown if you press Windows logo key +. (period)

After that, you can select an emoji to put it into an input box, for instance, Notepad.

This feature doesn't work on a remote desktop connection (RDP). In other words, after selecting an emoji, it won't be passed to the remote desktop input box, for example, the chosen one isn't inserted into Notepad of the RDP Windows OS.

Any idea, please?

    Hello,

I understand that you've noticed the emoji panel can be accessed on your local machine (A) while using Remote Desktop to connect to another machine (B). However, when you select an emoji from this panel during the remote session, it doesn't get inserted into the input fields within the applications running on remote desktop B.

This limitation occurs because the emoji picker functionality is not fully compatible with the Remote Desktop Protocol, which may not efficiently translate certain advanced GUI-based inputs across the connection. Consequently, emojis selected in your local environment do not transfer over to the active input area of applications in the remote session.

As a workaround, you could type or insert the emoji on your local machine A and then manually copy and paste it into the appropriate field within the remote desktop session on machine B.

If my interpretation of your situation is inaccurate or if you need further assistance, please let me know so I can continue to help address your issue.

    Regards.

    Hi Jacen,

    Thank you for your response.

You exactly explained the problem scenario correctly.

You know, the Clipboard functionality, which is in the same dialogue as Emoji, works well with RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). Please take a look at the following figure:

In other words, why does the Clipboard functionality work well with RDP but the Emoji functionality doesn't?

    Best wishes

    Hello,

It seems that you're encountering an issue with clipboard redirection during your remote session.

Typically, clipboard redirection for image pasting is supported across various system versions (Windows Server 2022, Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016).

You can try copying an image and then testing the paste functionality within the remote device. If the image fails to redirect as well, kindly provide your system version so that we can proceed with a more detailed troubleshooting process.

    Hope this help.

    Regards.

As workaround you can use the screen-keyboard:
