I updated my Windows 11 Pro 64-bit last week and since then my READYNAS OS 6 Desktop Storage has not allowed me access unless I do the following;

Hold-Windows+R
Type-gpedit.msc
Administrative Templates -> Lanman Workstations -> enable insecure guest logons

Afterwards, I need to restart my computer and leave that enabled to allow me to get to my files. It also will have an error code still that the files may not work correctly but it still allows me to go in and edit what is needed. I disable it again before I leave for the day. I don't know if this is allowing the firewall to come down, creating an unsafe connection.. But i'm struggling to find the proper way to enable this safely for me to gain the correct access to my shared network storage.

    Hello ,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.
    Based on your description, here are some suggestions to help you securely access shared network storage:

    1. Ensure that the sharing settings of your READYNAS storage device are correct. Log in to the device's management interface and check if guest access is enabled or if specific user credentials are required.
    2. Consider creating a dedicated user account on READYNAS and setting a strong password for it. This can avoid using insecure visitor login while still being able to access shared files.
    3. Ensure that "Enable Network Discovery" and "Enable File and Printer Sharing" are enabled.
    4. Check the Windows firewall settings to ensure that access to READYNAS is not blocked.
    5. Ensure that your network adapter driver is up-to-date. Outdated drivers may cause connectivity issues.
    6. If your READYNAS device uses the SMB 1.0 protocol, Windows 11 may disable this protocol by default. You can enable SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support in Control Panel>Programs>Enable or Disable Windows Features.
    7. If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended to contact technical support from NETGEAR or READYNAS for more professional assistance.

    I hope the information above is helpful.
    If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,
    Jill Zhou
