Long delay trying to save to network drive

I have windows 11, but this was a problem even on windows 10.

I am on PC A and I right click save file.

in the address bar I type in \<ip address of PC B>

I see all the network share drives on PC B but they are all greyed out for about 30 seconds.

I can then open a drive and save the file.

If I don't go back to the root of the drives, (to see them all) I can save right away, but if I go back to pick a different drive, I have to wait again.

If I open file explorer and type the name of PC B or the ip address without trying to save a file, I can open it right away.

This was an issue for a long time, and I kinda thought there was no solve for it, but I figured I would ask here.

PC A is running windows 11 pro

PC B is running windows 10 and have 7 drives for me to save files on, all of them viewable and accessible.

    Hello ,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on your description, here are some possible solutions and troubleshooting steps:

    1. Make sure the network connection between PC A and PC B is stable. You can try the following steps:

Make sure both computers are connected to the same network.

Use the command prompt to ping the IP address of PC B and check for latency and packet loss.

    1. Make sure network discovery and file sharing are enabled on PC B:

Open "Control Panel" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Change advanced sharing settings".

In the "Private" section, make sure "Turn on network discovery" and "Enable file and printer sharing" are checked.

    1. Make sure the network adapter drivers for PC A and PC B are up to date.
    2. Make sure Windows Firewall is not blocking file sharing.
    3. Try to access the shared drive directly using the IP address instead of through a web browser.
    4. Make sure the shared drive permissions on PC B are set correctly:

Right-click the drive you want to share and select "Properties".

Go to the "Sharing" tab, click "Advanced Sharing", make sure "Share this folder" is checked, and check the permission settings.

    1. Fast Startup may cause some network problems. You can try disabling it:

Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.

    1. Try restarting PC A and PC B and test again.

Thanks for the reply. So if I go to PC B from A when I am not downloading anything, this isnt an issue. I can move files from one to the other with no delay. Its only when I choose to download a file and save it to PC B from PC A this long pause happens.
