Windows App RDP over an external network

So I've started using the Windows RDP app [iOS Ver 11.0.7] to control my PC within my home and it works perfect, however, I could really use this service out my home but I cannot figure out how to configure the Windows app to port forward to my pc.

I've set up the port forward protocol on the router my PC is connected to, I've tried setting up the gateways to recognise said port within the app, made sure my PC has a static IP and I'm getting nowhere fast.

Does anyone have any other advice or something new I can try?

    Hello,

Here are a few things to consider:

    1. RDP port number is specified after the RDP host address. For example, 10.10.1.110:3340
    2. Change the default RDP port from 3389 to a less common port number to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
    3. Make sure that your firewall is set to allow traffic on the specific port you’ve forwarded.

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards,

    Karlie Weng

    Hi Karlie

I've changed my RDP port and made the replacement active on my router, and checked my firewall is allowing connections, however these changes don't seem to have made a difference. I will occasionally get an Error 0x204 appear for a split second before the app attempts to reconnect to the target PC but will never connect. I've made sure the Windows app is up to date, which it is, as is the PC. I've tried just generally connecting to the PC on my local network but this doesn't work either now, whereas before I could at least connect locally.

    Thanks,
    Cole

    Hello,

You can locally use the CMD command Test-NetConnection (NetTCPIP) | Microsoft Learn to test network connectivity, include the port number you modified.

    Hi,

Tried this and can't get anything through the ports, even though I'm definitely using active ports and it's all configured in my router. I think I'm just going to re-install windows as a whole as I can't even use RDP locally anymore so we'll see what happens I guess.

    Thanks,
    Cole

    Hi,

After reinstalling Windows I can RDP on other Windows devices over WAN and LAN, but using the iOS app is seemingly impossible, I'm including the port and it's definitely set correctly as I'm connected on my spare laptop.

I'm pulling my hair out with this,
    Cole
