Password-less file sharing started asking for password since last update - no credentials work either

Hello,

I have computer A, which is my main personal computer and I have computer B which is on the living room. I shared folder F from computer A without passwords and computer B had access to it for some time.

Since a few days ago, it started asking for passwords to access folder F on computer B, even though I explicity set no passwords required on advanced sharing settings on computer A.

I saw some people complaining about the same issue since a week ago, and tried enabling insecure logons on LanMan Workstation, but that didn't work either.

In any case, I decided to type the password. The issue is, no credentials from computer A work on the prompt on computer B.

I tried my email which show under accounts, and microsoft account password.

I tried the pin.

I tried using the computer name from whoami on the prompt, with and without the prefix.

And several combinations of the above, none of them work.

I've been at this for the past 4 hours, can't get sharing working, and I am a SWE with plenty tech experience, any advice appreciated.

I'd like to override the new requirement for password on regedit/gpedit - and please open a bug report for the no password option on sharing settings, as from what I read about the update that shouldn't be a common option anymore.

Or understand why my credentials are not working.

Thanks!

secpol.msc doesnt run in win 11 HOME edition.

In the support documentation on how to file share, it says to turn off password protected sharing. Since microsoft wants to use credentials, why doesn't the support documentation provide the how to guide on using credential manager?

I've tried using credential manager with password protected sharing turned on with the correct user/password (whether local or microsoft account) and it is always invalid PASSWORD EVEN IF I'VE TYPED IT CORRECTLY!

The credential manager field should have the capability to show the password. Secondly provide documentaiton why there should be a windows credential created when the generic credential already has the microsoft account user?

I can't use onedrive to access files because my surface pro only has 256gb and the other laptop is where the drawings are stored.

The irritating part is the other laptop can access the shared folder on the surface pro.
