Remote desktop connection not accepting my @live password.

So, I just purchased widow 11 pro on my desktop in order to use remote desktop. I enabled remote desktop in settings on my desktop. I will be accessing my desktop from my laptop. However, when I open the remote desktop via my laptop, it asks me for the computer name I will access, I enter the name and then asks me for my live account password and it fails to acknowledge my password as being correct, even though I'm able to use that password on the laptop and desktop.

    Hello,

To effectively address this issue, we need to gather some additional information:

What is the operating system of your laptop? If it is a Windows system, which version are you using? Are you using the built-in Remote Desktop Connection or the Microsoft Remote Desktop app downloaded from the Microsoft Store? Besides, have you enabled Windows Hello on your system?

It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide as much information as possible.

Instead of using the Microsoft account, can you try connecting via a local account? Make sure to add the local account to the Remote Desktop Users group on the Windows 11 machine.

    Thank you,

    Karlie

1: laptop is using windows 11 home and the desktop is using 11 pro.

2: I've tried both. The app and remote desktop connection. Both don't work.

3: Not sure what "hello" is. I do enter a pin when I turn my computer on and anytime it goes to sleep.

4: Don't know the difference between a local and microsoft account.

    Hi there,

Can you try opening command prompt, or just search CMD and then enter.

If you type in: whoami and then enter you will see what the local account name is.

Add that local account name in the Remote desktop app from which you try to remote connect from.

Open the Remote Desktop Connection app:

Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

Type mstsc and press Enter. This will open the Remote Desktop Connection window.

Enter the computer name or IP address:

In the Computer field, type the IP address or the name of the remote computer you want to connect to.

    Expand the options:

Click on the Show Options button at the bottom-left corner of the window. This will expand the window and show more settings.

Enter the Username you have previously found with the whoami command:

Under the General tab, in the User name field, type the username.

If you want the RDP client to remember your credentials, check the box that says Allow me to save credentials.

This will let you avoid entering the username and password every time you connect.

    Connect:

Click Connect. You will be prompted to enter your password for the account specified.

Once entered, you can check Remember me if you want RDP to save your password.

    Save the RDP profile (Optional):

If you frequently use this connection, you can save the settings as an RDP file.

Under the General tab, click Save As... and choose a location to save the RDP file.

Next time, simply double-click the saved file to launch the RDP session with the pre-filled computer name and username.

    3:Yes, the PIN is part of Windows Hello. You might want to try disabling this feature and use a full password for Remote Desktop connections instead;

4: A Microsoft account is an email address and password that you can use to sign in to various Microsoft services, including Windows.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delayed response. If I had replied earlier, this issue might have been resolved sooner. I am truly sorry for the difficulties you've experienced.

If you decide to use this product in the future and have any further questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

    Thank you for your understanding.
