MyNetwork personal cloud storage not accessible

Hi

I have a Seagate 4TB Personal Cloud storage device connected to my router that up until a week ago was accessible from my PC through the MyNetwork in file explorer. Now I am getting this error msg whenever i click on the folders.

\personalcloud\folder is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

I can ping the device and login into it through the IP address, but cannot go into the folder through the network in file explorer.

I have done almost every fix there is from turning off and on the private network discovery, printer & file sharing, SMB1, windows credential manager etc etc, still no joy.

I have also tried to access the security tab on the folder but it says the permissions are incorrectly ordered and wont re-order themselves.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello ,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

According to your error message, you may have some permission or network setting issues. Here are some possible solutions:

    1. Make sure your computer and Seagate device are on the same network and the network type is set to "Private Network".

Make sure network discovery and file sharing are enabled.

    1. Try restarting the Seagate Personal Cloud storage device and router. Sometimes restarting can solve network connection problems.
    2. Log in to the management interface of the Seagate Personal Cloud and check the settings of the shared folder to make sure you have access rights.

Make sure the sharing settings of the folder are correct and have not been accidentally changed.

    1. If you see a prompt "Permission order is incorrect" in the security tab of the folder, you can try the following steps:

Right-click the folder and select "Properties" > "Security" > "Advanced".

In "Advanced Security Settings", check the permission entries to make sure there are no duplicate entries or incorrect settings.

If possible, try to delete unnecessary permission entries and then re-add the correct user permissions.

    1. If the permission issue cannot be resolved through the interface, you can try to reset the permissions using the command line tool:

Run Command Prompt as an administrator.

Reset the folder permissions using the following command (replace X:\path\to\folder with your folder path):

    icacls "X:\path\to\folder" /reset /t

    1. Make sure that Windows Firewall or other security software is not blocking access to the Seagate device. You can try to temporarily disable the firewall to see if the problem is solved.
    2. Make sure your network adapter driver is up to date. You can check and update the driver through the device manager.

If the above steps still do not solve the problem, it is recommended to check Seagate's support documents or contact their technical support for more professional help.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,

    Jill Zhou

    Hello,

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately my Seagate personal drive doesn't have the functions to check the settings of the shared folder to make sure i have access rights. I did check them when i right clicked the folder the folder that show up in the MyNetwork and tried to remove the duplicate entries, but again to no avail. Kept getting the same error message

Failed to enumerate objects in the container.

If i try to do it through the command prompt as you suggest, how would i label the path as it is not a mapped drive/file?

Everything else checks out on the PC as you requested and i can connect to the personal cloud HDD through every other device, so I it i know its a windows issue.

    Thanks for your reply!

It's nice for you to confirm that other devices have access to Seagate Personal Cloud storage, which does indicate that the problem may be with the Windows settings. Regarding the "Unable to enumerate objects in container" error you mentioned, this is usually related to permission or file system issues.

Regarding how to reset folder permissions in the Command Prompt, you can use the following steps:

Determine the network path of the folder: Since you mentioned that the folder is not a mapped drive, you can use the UNC path to access it. The format of the UNC path is usually devicenameshared folder. For example, if the name of your Seagate device is personalcloud and the folder you want to access is folder, the path will be personalcloudfolder.

Open Command Prompt: Run the Command Prompt as an administrator. You can search for "cmd" in the start menu, then right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator".

Reset permissions: In the command prompt, you can use the following command to reset the permissions of a folder (please replace the path as you see fit):
    icacls "personalcloudfolder" /reset /t

This command will reset the permissions of the specified folder and its subfolders and files.

Check your sharing settings: If you still can't access the folder, you can try the Seagate device's admin interface to see if there are any options for sharing settings or user permissions. While you mentioned that the device doesn't have these features, there may be some basic sharing settings that can be adjusted sometimes.

Check for Windows updates: Make sure your Windows system is up to date, sometimes updates can fix potential compatibility issues.

If you have any problems with these steps, or need further assistance, please feel free to let me know! Hopefully, these suggestions will help you solve your problem.

    Hello,

That didn't work either, please see below screenshot of the error. I tried with and without the inverted commas. Windows is up to date

I have checked the Seagate drive and it looks like it is sharing correctly

I have exactly the same problem - Win10 machine & a Linux machine can read & write to files on the Seagate Personal Cloud but, since about the end of November, whilst Win11 machine can ping the drive & show it in Explorer, it will not open any folders/ connect to any files using links from "recent files" in any apps
