Does Microsoft Purview support Data Quality scanning of on-premises SQL Server?

Hi all,

I am currently piloting Microsoft Purview and I am struggling with determining if it allows for on-premises SQL Server data quality scanning. I do have Purview set up to scan the on-premises SQL Server for metadata, but running DQ on the same tables simply skips those SQL Server tables. I see that Microsoft has in the roadmap for 2025 to support on premises Oracle DQ scanning so I was surprised that SQL Server either wasn't supported now nor seemed to be on the roadmap for 2025.

Can anyone give me additional insights into the support for DQ on-premises SQL Server scanning?

Thankyou!

Gareth

    Hi @Gareth Thompson

Thank you for posting your query!

Microsoft Purview currently supports data quality (DQ) assessments for a variety of data sources as shown in the figure below:

However, data quality scanning for on-premises SQL Server instances is not currently supported. While Microsoft Purview can connect to on-premises SQL Server instances to extract metadata, this capability does not extend to data quality assessments.

It's worth noting that Microsoft has plans to support data quality scanning for on-premises Oracle databases in 2025. However, there is no publicly available information indicating similar support for on-premises SQL Server databases in the current roadmap.
