Hello there
I am trying to get my Win 10 based system ready for a Win 11 install the Microsoft test I got from your webpage says my Amd Ryzen7 1700 isn't supported in win 11 so I bought an Amd Ryzen 7 5800XT hoping that allows me to move forward.
It was the Amd web web site I was on and did get and have updated the Bios and the chipset drivers. Now when it comes to the CPU (Computer Processor Unit) the Amd Ryzen 7 5800X and the Amd Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU drivers are listed , but the Ryzen 7 5800XT is not listed. I have the Asus Republic of Gamers (RoG) Strix x370-F motherboard. I believe there are minor changes from the 5800X and the 5800 XT, as in the XT is the newest version of the X CPU. There is a much bigger change with the 5800X3D they put I think more Cache directly on the CPU that isn't on the 5800X and 5800XT, it would Explain why a different driver set is used. (I could be wrong about it being more Cache an it being something different)
Now I have watched a few videos on the web, and all they said they did was update the Bios, then booted up the system. Although a smart person knows you can't believe everything you read on the net. I was just hoping to find out if my thinking is correct. I have picked up computers from the side of the road, out for garbage pickup. Picking the best MB and CPU swapping when needing and haven't fried any. So my ability for this swap should be OK. Now it is possible that Microsoft will Auto update CPU drivers when I first bootup the system. I just don't want to install X or X3D CPU drivers and fry anything. It is possible that I can't install the X or the X3D at all because I don't have a X or X3D version.
I am not sure if I can explian it better. The Mother board web site does say it supports the XT, I just don't see the XT in the CPU driver list, that is the only reason I am even asking. I spent a lot of money on this system And need it to last a few more years before I build my next System. I have been happy with the last two systems I built which was Amd socket m4 based. if this thing gets fried I will go back to Pentium based.
I have contacted AMD and they told me the same thing that I was asking them, their reply was for me to contact microsoft directly, this was their reply
Dear Leonard Robinson, Your service request: 00604728 has been reviewed and updated. Response and Service Request History: Thanks for contacting AMD support. I understand you're looking for Windows 11 drivers for the Ryzen 7 5800 XT. While I appreciate you contacting us directly I must recommend checking with Microsoft which CPU models it requires. I checked Microsoft's website and they do not list the R7 5800 XT despite being a relatively new CPU. For clarification, please contact them directly. For drivers, you'll want to look for Chipset drivers. You can get these from either your motherboard's support page or our page. You may select which one's the latest one. If selecting from our page, select Chipsets > AM4 > Select the Chipset that matches your motherboard's model and submit > Download Chipset drivers available in the first download button. If you have any problems during installation, please send us:
- A Microsoft System Information Report, which you can create by pressing [Windows Key] + [R] > "msinfo32" > File > Save. Attach the NFO file to your next reply;
- A DxDiag report, which will offer important information about the components and drivers installed on your system, including conflicts or errors found by Windows:
- Press the Start button in Windows.
- Type 'dxdiag' in the search bar. Select the dxdiag app from the results. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool will open.
- Select Save All Information. Save the txt file locally and attach it to your reply.
