Windows 10 Lock Screen Issue – Password Field Not Appearing

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with a Windows 10 PC in our corporate domain. Every time the PC is locked, clicking on the screen to unlock it causes it to remain stuck in a "pending" state, and the password input field does not appear.

The only workarounds that sometimes help are:

Putting the PC into sleep mode and waking it up again.

Enabling airplane mode (but this does not always work).

So far, we have tried disabling recently installed startup apps, but this has not improved the situation.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any suggestions on what could be causing it or possible fixes?

Hello Han,

Thank you for your response. However, I checked the registry path HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Desktop, and I couldn't find the Scrnsave.exe or ScreenSaverIsSecure keys.

Could you please confirm if they might be located elsewhere or if I need to create them manually?

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

To resolve this problem, use another screen saver program (such as Logon.scr) that is installed locally on the system or that is not corrupted.

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the Scrnsave.exe value under the following registry key: HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Desktop
3. On the Edit menu, click String, type logon.scr, and then click OK.
4. Locate the ScreenSaverIsSecure value.
5. On the Edit menu, click String, type 0, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

Note If you modify the registry incorrectly, you can cause serious problems. Therefore, follow these steps carefully. For additional protection, back up the registry before you modify it.
