Why some excluded changes in the 'check in' section?

I have a few questions regarding "saving" a model.

  • Do I always have to save (ctrl+s) in order to check-in?
  • This section is a bit criptic to me

I end up clicking "check in", without being 100% sure... Why some changes go directly to 'excluded'? is it ok to trust the excluded changes as 'unwanted' and always proceed with the 'check in'?

Finally, is there any documentation/best practices on t his?
