Latest Windows Update Has Caused Certificate Enabled Wi-Fi Network (Eduroam) to Stop Working, the Wi-Fi network fails to connect every time after the update. I have tried re-installing the certificate, but it doesn't work. I also normally run a vpn, but disabling this has had no effect. The laptop still connects to other wifi neworks, but fails on any run by Janet University Networks. My laptop runs Windows 11 Pro, and is an Alienware M16 R2.

I discovered that the Eduroam network worked in an older building (which got me thinking perhaps it's the more modern Wi-Fi standard being used in my building that's the issue). Having tested this, I have found that I am correct and that it is the Wi-Fi standard causing the issue. My laptop is capable of Wi-Fi 7, and was trying to use Wi-Fi 6 to connect to the Eduroam network (having had this configuration working before). However it appears the latest windows update has broken this functionality. I have forced my laptop to now only use the Wi-Fi 4 standard, and suddenly the network is working again.

Having swapped back to Wi-Fi 7, all works ok temporarily - but the windows update definitely triggered this bug (and numerous others). The issue is still persisting after a reboot the next day, and the only temporary fix is to switch Wi-Fi protocols. Definitely caused by bug after Windows update.

I had an idea about updating the Wi-Fi driver, and found a driver update for my Intel(R) Wi-Fi 7 BE202 160MHz chip was available directly from Intel. I hadn't previously spotted this, as my laptop manufacturer hasn't pushed this driver update on the dedicated driver update tool for my laptop yet.

I've now updated from driver version: 23.90.0.2 to 23.120.0.3 (released on 06/02/2025), using the driver directly from Intel for this Wi-Fi network adapter. I was hoping this may fix the issue, as it's probably to do with how Windows 11 is interfacing with the driver. However, the issue still persists

Please can Microsoft investigate and fix!

If anyone has a fix that would be great

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to update cause issue.

If the issue started after a specific Windows update, you can try uninstall that update and check the result. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.

Go to Device Manager > Network adapters > Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer and select a generic driver.

It is recommended to report this issue to Microsoft, use the Feedback Hub app. To learn more, see Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app:
