Upgrade Public IP and its configuration

I have received an email for Basic SKU Public IP and its need to be upgraded and also some IPs are in Dynamic Assignment, if I change it to Static, will it change the IP Address.

Hi @Madhan Kumar K ,

if you switch an Azure Public IP from dynamic to static it will most likely change the IP address.

I did the upgrade from Basic SKU Public IP (half of them were dynamic IPs) addresses to Standard SKU Public IP and all IP addresses changed during the change.

Also you have to detach the Azure Public IP for instance of an Azure VM before you can change the Public IP SKU from Basic to Standard. After the change the SKU from Basic to Standard you have to attach the Azure Public IP address again.

Hi Madhan Kumar K,
If you switch the public IP address of your Azure Virtual Machine from dynamic to static, the IP address will be retained and will not change even if you restart the server from the Azure console. When you switch the public IP address to static, Azure reserves the IP address for your use and ensures that it is not assigned to any other resource. This means that the IP address will remain the same until you release it or delete the resource. However, please note that if you delete the resource associated with the static IP address, the IP address will be released and can be assigned to another resource. So, make sure to keep the resource associated with the static IP address if you want to retain the IP address.
