Upgrading to Windows 24H2 is destroying my life. How to rollback?

Is there a way to rollback from 24H2 to 23H2 without losing data and applications? Unfortunately I have already tried canceling the updates and using restore points, but it did not work. On the other hand, this update to 24H2 makes my system absolutely unstable even though I have updated all the possible and imaginable drivers. Unfortunately, in an easily repeatable way, just launch some procedures and after not even 3 minutes the system crashes. I also tried with a POP OS (Linux) Live USB key to do very heavy stress tests fearing a hardware problem had occurred, but with POP OS the system was very stable as it was for years with Windows 11 Pro 23H2. I do AI-related things, my system is this:

ASUS ROG ZENITH II EXTREME ALPHA AMD
AMD Ryzen 3990X
256 GB RAM
RTX 3090
RTX 4090

It's a machine costing tens of thousands of euros that until the update to 24H2 had never given any problems for two years even with very violent workloads for many dozens of consecutive hours.

After the update to 24H2 it crashes after a few minutes of serious activity. Punctually. The monitors all go black and there is nothing to do but restart the PC. Or the GPU fans go crazy, spin at maximum and the system says it has lost control of the GPUs.

I have been trying everything for weeks to make the machine stable again, without success.

I hope you can help me otherwise this time I will have to definitively migrate to Linux and never pick up Windows again.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to rollback to 23H2.

Before rollback, back up your important data to avoid any potential loss.

If it's been less than 10 days since you upgraded to 24H2, you can use the Go Back feature. Go to Settings > System > Recovery. Under Recovery options, select Go back to revert to the previous version.

f the Go Back option is no longer available, you can use an ISO file for Windows 11 23H2. Download the ISO file for Windows 11 23H2. Mount the ISO file and run the setup.exe. Choose the option to keep your files and applications during the installation process.

Also, check if your app and hardware is compatible with Windows 11 23H2/24H2.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

This may come a bit late for you, but to anyone else with similar issues:

I asked Microsoft support about this very topic and managed to get a link to an official Media Creation Tool for Windows 11 version 23H2. Here you go. Enjoy! :)
