I am facing a critical issue where I cannot log into the Azure portal due to the error "Multi-factor authentication method is blocked" (Error Code: 399287). This is severely impacting my ability to manage Azure services and renew my subscription's credit card (which has expired, causing service disruptions). Here are the key details:

  1. Configuration:
    • My account is configured with Microsoft Authenticator (push notifications work for other Microsoft services like Outlook).
    • A verified Chinese phone number (country code 86) is registered for MFA, which works for non-Azure services (e.g., OneDrive, Office 365).
  2. Error Details:
    • Despite having both Microsoft Authenticator and the Chinese phone number enabled, Azure blocks all MFA methods during login.
    • The error specifically states that the MFA method is blocked, but no further details are provided.
  3. Impact:
    • My Azure subscription(s) are suspended due to an expired credit card.
    • I am the only administrator of this Azure tenant and cannot resolve the issue without access to the portal.

Error Details:

  • Error Code: 399287
  • Request ID: 5a4c434c-e56a-474d-a22c-dbc9a6ba3500
  • Correlation ID: d52b29d2-f608-485d-947c-e2e4fb609e79
  • Timestamp: 2025-03-15T16:45:48Z

Requests:

  • Investigate why Azure is blocking MFA methods (Authenticator/China phone number) despite their valid configuration.
  • Provide an emergency workaround to update the credit card or grant temporary access to resolve the subscription suspension.

Critical: Immediate resolution is required to avoid permanent service termination and data loss.

Thank you for your urgent assistance

    Hello @浩 张,

Thank you for sharing your details via email.

I have reached out to the engineering team to unblock MFA for your account. They have now unblocked it from the backend and removed the bad reputation on it. You should be able to log in to the Azure Portal without any issues.

Please try logging in and check if you can complete SMS authentication without any errors. Let me know if you encounter any issues.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
