    Hi @Mick Mayne

    Welcome to our forum!

What is your account type (Gmail/Microsoft/Other)?

What is the Outlook client version?

This error usually indicates that Outlook is unable to connect to the mail server, which can be due to a number of reasons.

    Try these possible resolution steps:

Try logging in to the web version to check if you can log in properly.

Check your account settings and see if your port settings are correct. You'll need to contact your email provider to confirm that the port settings are correct or that the password is applied. POP, IMAP, and SMTP settings for Outlook.com - Microsoft Support
