Azure Portal sign-in error AADSTS5000224

For about a week now I have been encountering error AADSTS5000224 when I try to sign-in to the Azure portal.

I have seen other threads that say to open a ticket, but I can't open a ticket if I can't login.

I have tried the support # multiple times and I get through the Auto-Attendant and am listening to hold music in the queue when the hold music stops and I hear silence for a minute or so before the call hangs up on me. This has happened every time I've tried to call. I've tried from different numbers as well. I can't imagine it is an audio issue on my end as the auto-attendant can hear me and I can hear it.

How can I get this issue resolved if I can't reach support?

I have resolved this. My startup directory in the Azure portal was set to Last Accessed. My last access happened to be a demo subscription that expired, which is what was triggering the sign-in error.

To get in, I signed into a different directory directly by using a URL like this: https://portal.azure.com/<tenant-ID>. Once I got successfully signed in I changed my Startup Directory to my permanent company tenant so this issue does not come up again.

It would have been helpful if the error message was more descriptive and able to tell me that I was trying to sign in to a directory that was expired and even better, if it would ask me to choose a different directory instead.
