Hi team ,

If I am using dedicated SQL pool tiers DW2000c in Azure synapse.

how do i know which Fabric capacity (SKU,CU) should I use if i have to migrate to Fabric

Can anyone give a detailed comparison Compute capacity of both Azure synpase to Fabric

Hey Nihar,

Good day!

Unfortunately there is no dedicated SQL pool equivalent as of today in MSFT Fabric and there is no direct mapping between Fabric capacity and DWU of dedicated pool.

Based on what type of sink you are using and what transformation tools you are using ( dataflow gen 2 or notebook), your Fabric capacity can change.

So basically it is trial and error method wherein you start with a minimum capacity and gradually incrase across till you get the right capacity.

Ideally it is recommended to start with F64 capacity as that is the minimum capacity that supports all features and functionalities

Additional to the above information, since there’s no direct mapping between Dedicated SQL Pool and Fabric capacity, one way to approach this is to start with F64, as recommended, and closely monitor performance using the Fabric Capacity Metrics app. If things run smoothly, great! If not, you can gradually scale up until you find the right fit.

Another way to make this transition smoother is to test with a subset of your data first instead of moving everything at once. Running sample workloads using Dataflow Gen2 or Notebooks can give a good idea of how Fabric handles them before committing to a larger capacity.

If you have different types of workloads, you might find it useful to split them across multiple capacities instead of using one large one. Auto scale can also be a good option if your workloads fluctuate, so you don’t end up overprovisioning resources.

Microsoft also keeps updating its Fabric Capacity Planning Guide, so it’s worth checking for the latest recommendations.
