Hi,

The update installer says the installer is incompatible

I just ran the Surface data eraser, then installed Windows 11. I am trying to run the Surface Laptop 6 for Business Update installer, but it says there is a mismatch between the installer's OS which says it is Win11.22631 and the hardware's OS, which the window prompt says is 10.0.22621.0. However, this computer definitely has Windows 11. Please see screenshot.

How can I complete my updates? I can't run through OOBE and get my updates either, as there is no Wi-Fi driver for me to connect to the internet.

    Hello Colleen-8898,

I'm going to share you a guide step by step with officials links include from Microsoft so you can resolve your issue.

Visit Microsoft Update Catalog: On a computer with Internet access, navigate to the Microsoft Update Catalog. (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/)

    1. Search for the Correct Update: In the search box, type the KB number or “Windows 11 22631 cumulative update” to locate the right update package.
      • Confirm that the package matches your system architecture (e.g., x64).
    2. Download the .msu File: Download the update package file (it will have a .msu extension).
    3. Download Any Additional Drivers (Optional): If you suspect the lack of a network driver might block future updates, you may also download the necessary Wi‑Fi driver for your Surface Laptop 6 for Business from the Microsoft Surface Drivers & Firmware page. https://www.microsoft.com/surface/support(This step is optional if you plan to eventually install drivers offline, but it isn’t strictly required to update the OS build if you’re just fixing the build mismatch.)
    4. Transfer the Update to Your Surface Laptop

Prepare a USB Drive: Copy the downloaded .msu (and any driver packages, if desired) onto a USB flash drive.

Insert the USB Drive into the Surface Laptop: Connect the USB drive directly into one of the USB ports on your Surface.

    1. Install the Offline Update Package

Locate the .msu File: Navigate to the USB drive from File Explorer in Windows.

Run the Update Installer: Double‑click on the .msu file; this will launch the Windows Update Standalone Installer. Follow the on‑screen instructions to install the update.

Note: Make sure your device is plugged into power during this process.

Wait for Completion and Restart: The installer will extract and apply the update. Allow the process to finish and restart your device when prompted.

After the restart, check your Windows build by typing `winver` in the Run dialog (Windows key + R). It should now reflect the updated build (10.0.22631 or later).

    1. Re-run the Surface Laptop 6 for Business Update Installer

Once your OS build matches what the Surface Laptop 6 for Business Update expects:

    • Try running the update installer again.
    • The installer should now recognize that your device is running the required Windows 11 build and proceed with the update.
    • Visit Microsoft Update Catalog: On a computer with Internet access, navigate to the Microsoft Update Catalog.
