As said here, Microsoft recommends syncing no more than 300,000 files in a single OneDrive or team site library. The performance issues can occur if you have 300,000 items or more across all libraries you're syncing, even if you aren't syncing all items in those libraries. If you have no more than 300,000 files to sync, maybe this issue is caused by recent updates. It is beneficial to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.
