Problems with Windows DNS Server

Hello,

I am having a strange problem with my Windows DNS Server. It mostly works fine, but every now and then, I have problems with certain DNS names. My DNS is currently configured to use 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8, 75.75.75.75 to forward requests to. I've tried changing these around, using different DNS servers, etc., but nothing changes regarding the problem I have.

As an example, if I try to visit the web site "oasd34ea.micpn.com" I get:

Hmmm… can't reach this page

It looks like the webpage at http://oasd34ea.micpn.com/ might be having issues, or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_ADDRESS_INVALID

If I do an NSLOOKUP for this URL, I get:

PS C:\Users\rick> nslookup oasd34ea.micpn.com
Server: XXXXXX.local
Address: 192.168.1.3
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: oasd34ea.micpn.com
Addresses: ::
0.0.0.0

However, if I do the same NSLOOKUP on a computer connected to a different network, I get a valid response with valid IP addresses. And, of course, I can access the website from a computer on a different network.

PS C:\Users\rhogan> nslookup oasd34ea.micpn.com
Server: YYYYYYYYYY.local
Address: 10.0.0.1
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: oasd34ea.micpn.com
Addresses: 18.160.225.70
18.160.225.89
18.160.225.114
18.160.225.91

From a computer in my network, even if I specify a different DNS server on the NSLOOKUP command, I still get the bad results:

PS C:\Users\rick> nslookup oasd34ea.micpn.com 1.1.1.1
Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.1.1.1
Name: oasd34ea.micpn.com
Addresses: ::
0.0.0.0

This makes it even more baffling, since it seems as if the problem might be something other than my DNS server. But what else can it be? Again, keep in mind that 99% of the time, I have no problem accessing the Internet through my network, my internal DNS Server, etc.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

From the information you provided, NDS parsing is incorrect. I suggest that you open a command prompt as an administrator and run the following command to clear the DNS cache to see if it can solve the problem:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdnsUser's image

I hope the information above is helpful.

    Best regards

The solution to my problem was that I had enabled "Ad blocking" on my UniFi Dream Router, and that was blocking the DNS responses for the specific sites I was having trouble connecting to. It wasn't actually a problem with Windows DNS server at all.

UniFi support actually figured this out. After I disabled the "Ad blocking" feature, I was able to access these web sites.
