Hi i'm currently in hybrid environment and need to ensure migrated users can access public folders, so i ran the sync public folders script and at the end got a warning to run with FixInconsistencies.

So i have a few questions:

  • Is this safe to run, meaning it won't impact existing on-prem users?
  • What exactly does it do?
  • Do i have to do it, or can I still proceed and the public folders should work to cloud users?

    Hi @Raymond Brooks,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A platform!

Here are the answers to your questions:

    1. This script is designed to fix inconsistencies and is usually safe to run. It focuses on fixing metadata and synchronization issues without deleting or modifying existing public folder contents or on-prem configurations. Existing on-prem users are not affected. The script primarily ensures that public folder objects are properly synchronized to Exchange Online.
    2. Creates locally missing public folders in Exchange Online, removes invalid entries, and resynchronizes permissions and replication settings. Valid local data is not deleted unless irreparable damage is detected. So it is recommended to still make a backup before that.
    3. It is recommended to run. If skipped, cloud users may not be able to access public folders due to missing synchronization.
