Faild to register a Security Keys because of name error.

Summary

I try to register a security key. It can continue to recognize and register the key, but last step, adding the name, it appears the error of "We're sorry, we ran into a problem. Please choose 'Next' to try again." I hope to solve this error and complete the register,

What we did

  • Change the both devices, client and key devices. (iOS, Android, Security Key, and so on.)
  • Reboot the clients
  • Change Language, I'm Japanese so from Japanese to English, German.
  • Make another user and try them.

    I Understand you are trying to register security key. But you are encountering the error which is mentioned in the below screen shot:

    I want you to confirm that to Enable passkeys (FIDO2) for your organization the requirements are:

    1. Users must complete multifactor authentication (MFA) within the past five minutes before they can register a passkey (FIDO2).
    2. Users need a FIDO2 security key eligible for attestation with Microsoft Entra ID or Microsoft Authenticator.
    3. Devices must support passkey (FIDO2) authentication. For Windows devices that are joined to Microsoft Entra ID, the best experience is on Windows 10 version 1903 or higher. Hybrid- joined devices must run Windows 10 version 2004 or higher.

    Make sure you are following the above-mentioned points to enable the passkeys for your organization. You can also refer the document: Passkey-Requirements

    I see you are giving the security key name as '1' try giving another name like 'SecurityKey1' and click on next to register the key.
    If you are still encountering the error, I need to confirm whether you are experiencing the same issue when using other browsers. Since you mentioned trying different devices, such as Android and iOS, have you also attempted to register the security key using other browsers on these devices? Because if you are trying to register with Andriod devices and ios devices follow the below mentioned points before registering the:

    IOS Device:

    1. Sign-in with passkey requires iOS 14.3 or later because Microsoft Entra ID requires user verification for multifactor authentication.
    2. BLE security keys aren't supported on iOS by Apple.
    3. NFC with FIPS 140-3 certified security keys isn't supported on iOS by Apple.
    4. New security key registration doesn't work on iOS browsers because they don't prompt to set up biometrics or PIN.

    Andriod Device:

    1. Sign-in with passkey requires Google Play Services 21 or later because Microsoft Entra ID requires user verification for multifactor authentication.
    2. BLE security keys aren't supported on Android by Google.
    3. Security key registration with Microsoft Entra ID isn't yet supported on Android.
    4. Sign-in with passkey isn't supported in Firefox on Android.
