My theory is that being part of the Beta Insider Updates program may have introduced compatibility issues. Here is the process I observed: 1. Upon pressing "Update" in the Riot Client to install Riot Vanguard, a "setup" process briefly appears in Task Manager (32-bit, although my system is 64-bit). 2. I traced the "setup" process to a folder under ProgramData on Local Disk C. Inside this folder is the Riot Games directory, which contains a metadata folder. Within metadata are subfolders, including bacon.live, leagueoflegends.live, riotclient, and valorant.live. 3. Pressing "Update" creates a vanguard folder and a vanguard.lockfile inside the metadata directory. The vanguard folder also contains a "setup" application specific to Riot Vanguard. 4. After the error message—"We couldn't install a required dependency. Please try again later, restart your computer, or contact customer support"—the vanguard folder and its contents disappear entirely. This error has persisted for more than a week, despite my efforts to trace and resolve it. I suspect that compatibility issues with the Beta Insider Update might be a contributing factor.
