I get a Inaccessible Boot Device Blue Screen when I run update INTEL 10.1.49.7

I am running Windows 11 Home Version 11.0.26100 and when I update INTEL - System 10.1.49.7 I get a blue screen and the error is Inaccessible Boot Device. I have to reinstall windows to fix the issue. It will not let me roll back the updates, nor can I do a computer repair. I have reinstalled a clean version of windows about 10 times now and have isolated the error to this update. BIOS is up to date. All other drivers are up to date. My processor is 13the gen i9-13900H. Looking for guidance please.

I got the same error. It is so weird. I also had to reinstall windows around 10 times. No solution so far. Do we have the same computer? Mine is the Asus vivobook 16x, I also got the i9-13900H.

Yes it appears we have the same computer. I contacted Asus and they couldn't find a solution so they wanted me to send it in. I contacted Intel and they said its a Microsoft issue. I contacted Microsoft and they said its a manufacturer issue because it is more than likely a motherboard. I wasn't going to send it in to Asus because I calculated the cost being around $400, and I could buy a new one for $700. I decide to shut off all automatic upgrades and install all of them except the Intel 10.1.49.7 causing the issue. I also created a restore point. However, I recently checked for all updates and that one no longer exists. I checked the history to make sure it didn't down load automatically and install. It didn't. It appears Microsoft has pulled it from the updates. However, I am still a little suspicious so I will leave my automatic upgrades off for now. So check your upgrades and see if its gone on your computer. Hope it is!

I think it is not an Asus problem because it also installs a previous version of the driver. That one works perfectly fine. I just don't know why this one, after years of use will break my computer.

I’m encountering the exact same issue that others have reported:

Device: ASUS Vivobook 16X (model K3605VV)

CPU: 13th-Gen Intel Raptor Lake

OS: Windows 11, fully up to date

Problematic Update: “Intel – System 10.1.49.7” (delivered via Windows Update)

Symptoms:

Windows Update installs Intel – System 10.1.49.7.(the numbers don't matter ,all Intel – System updates lead to this)

when System restarts it immediately hits a BSOD INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

recovery point doesn't succeeds until the driver is removed manually.

What I’ve Tried:

Verified that Intel VMD is disabled in BIOS (storage controllers show only the Standard NVM Express Controller).

Blocked all driver updates via Group Policy—only then does the system avoid the crash, but this also blocks unrelated drivers (Wi-Fi, GPU, etc.), which isn’t a viable long-term solution.

Request:

Please pull or replace the Intel – System 10.1.49.7 INF from the Windows Update catalog for 13th-Gen systems, as it appears to contain a corrupted PCIe root-complex driver.

Provide an official workaround or updated driver package that preserves boot-device access without disabling all driver updates.

You must verified "Intel VMD" is enable in BIOS.

You download "Intel Rapid Storage" for 13th gen CPU (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/849933/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-12th-to-13th-gen-platforms.html), extract drivers (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057787/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html) and copy it to the USB devices.

You start your windows installation, when it don't found hard drive, you select "Load Driver" and select in your USB device the driver's files. (You don't unplug the USB device during the installation).

Your hard drive appears and install your windows normally.

I have also tried to do that but, recently I swapped out my ssd to a bigger one. That driver also just breaks my computer, same as the chipset drivers. Enabling VMD just makes the SSD undetectable by windows

Had the same issue, brand new Vivobook K3605VC without OS in package. Firstly I've installed Win10 and after updates system crashed, no possible way to restore, I reinstalled it three more times and found out about INTEL - System 10.1.49.7 update, so I had to search more info, but nothing official likes patches or anything. Found similar issue with older laptops but unfortunately didn't work for me

Today I've tried to install clean Win11 and after updates it also crashed the same way, I had to reinstall it once again. But this time using the link of Christophe G in his comment above with drivers from Intel website and IT WORKED!!!! It's interesting that on official ASUS support site they don't have this driver for some reason

Try to contact windows technical support live and ask them about hiding the update. That worked for me.

I am curious how they had you hide the update? It just stopped appearing for me so I assumed they pulled it because of the issues.

They used a troubleshooter for me. So they downloaded a troubleshooter onto my computer that said "hide or show update" and that fixed it
