Dear Azure Support Team,

I am currently exploring options for virtual desktop infrastructure using Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). I would like to inquire whether AVD currently supports Linux-based images for session hosts, similar to the support provided for Windows-based multi-session environments.

Specifically, I would like to know:

  1. Does AVD support Linux images (such as Ubuntu) as session hosts for users?
  2. If not, are there any upcoming plans to support Linux-based virtual desktops within the AVD platform?
  3. Could you suggest any official Azure alternatives to AVD that allow multi-user Linux-based virtual desktop access?
  4. Are there third-party solutions or partnerships within the Azure Marketplace that can help achieve a similar result (Linux desktop via Azure)?

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I look forward to your guidance and recommendations.

Best regards,

Wajdi

    Hi @wajdi,

Azure Virtual Desktop is primarily designed for Windows desktop and application virtualization. While it supports Linux-based VMs, a native Linux desktop experience is not available within the AVD console, similar to the support provided for Windows-based multi-session environments.
