Azure VM suddenly disconnected. Cant cannot any longer using RDP. Azure portal says VM Agent status is "Not Ready".

stopping and stating the Azure VM again does not help?
Have you tried to redeploy the VM? This will move the VM to a different Azure host.

Hello, the restart worked. Could you tell me why this happens and if I can prevent it from happening again? Its quite disruptive if it happens on an important VM that I dont actively monitor
Hi while restarting worked, I wanted to understand why this happened and how I can prevent it, this happened in an important VM that was thankfully monitored. If it wasnt monitored, it would be cause for great concern. I would therefore want to understand what I can do to not have this happen to me.

monitoring the health of the VM agent, for instance with Azure Monitor or your preferred monitoring tool, might help.
A restart if the status of the VM agent failed is an option as well.

Keep your Azure VMs healthy, enable Azure Monitor for alerts on VM status and resource usage, ensure OS and VM Agent updates are current, and regularly clean up disk space and temporary files. Automating updates and monitoring can prevent issues before they arise.
