I want to change the public IP address of my virtual network gateway, but where should I change it?

I received a notification to upgrade to the Standard SKU,

and would like to upgrade my public IP address,

but I cannot change it because the public IP address of the virtual network gateway is associated.

I would like to know how to change the association or upgrade.

    Hi @Keiichi Murakami

I understand that you want to upgrade the public IP address of your virtual network gateway from Basic to Standard SKU.

On September 30, 2025, Basic SKU public IPs will be retired. For more information, see the official announcement. If you are currently using Basic SKU public IPs, make sure to upgrade to Standard SKU public IPs prior to the retirement date.

Migration plans for VPN gateways that use a Basic gateway SKU with a Basic SKU public IP address will be announced by April 30, 2025.

There are separate migration timelines, depending on the VPN Gateway SKU that your gateway is currently configured to use.

Reference: Migrating a Basic SKU public IP address to Standard SKU for VPN Gateway

When will I be able to create a Basic SKU VPN gateway with a Standard SKU public IP address?

The Standard SKU public IP address parameter for the VPN Gateway Basic SKU is currently being rolled out and will be completed in April 2025. After this date, you'll be able to create a Basic SKU VPN gateway with a Standard SKU public IP address.

Can I change to a Standard SKU public IP address manually?

Yes, you can. If you choose to do this manually, you'll need to delete the old gateway and then create a new gateway in your virtual network. When you create a new gateway, your gateway will automatically use a Standard SKU public IP address. However, if you choose to use this process, you'll incur downtime while the old gateway is deleted, and the new gateway is created. For more information, see Change a gateway SKU.

    Hi @Keiichi Murakami ,

there is no option to modify the Public IP address of an existing Virtual Network Gateway:

Change or remove public IP address

VPN Gateway doesn't support changing the primary public IP address after creation.

The only option I can see is to deploy a new VPN Gateway and delete the old/existing one.

The article below has been updated, so I will post it here for those who wish to view it.

It seems that it is still not available in Japan East.

East Japan. So, when do you think it will be available?

    Hi,

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/vpn-gateway/basic-public-ip-migrate-about and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/vpn-gateway/basic-public-ip-migrate-howto

This article above help to migrate a Basic SKU public IP address to a Standard SKU for VPN Gateway deployments that use gateway SKUs VpnGw 1-5 for active-passive gateways (not active-active).

But I'm using a VPN gateway that uses a basic SKU. Is there any migration path for it?
