I am trying to link a school account to my Microsoft Authenticator app. The options are scan a QR code or sign in. I don't have access to scan any codes because I lost access to my email. Hence I HAVE to sign in. When I try signing in while on the authenticator app, I have to "open the Authenticator app, and enter the number shown to sign in. " Obviously I am already on the app trying to link the email and cant do that.

So I click on "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now"

The next window is to "Verify your identity"

I have to choose one of two options only 1. Approve the request on the app or 2. Use a verification code from the app

I cant understand how this is meant to be a simple self service task when I'm on the actual app trying to link my email for use of my email on the outlook app but cant access both!!! Because this wonderful setup requires you to GO TO THE APP when I'm ACTUALLY ON THE APP !!!

Please explain because the million articles and discussions on Microsoft are useless

    Are you end user?

If so, you may contact your school Microsoft 365 admin. (i.e. contact the person who gave you your Microsoft 365 user account and password for further assistance).
