I am part of a daily distribution list that starts new every day at 12:01am. The more people respond to this during the day; the opening of emails gets slower and slower. I believe it is in meta data collection that is causing the issue

Outlook doesn’t offer a direct way to disable metadata collection, but you can reduce performance issues by:

Turning off "Reading Pane" to prevent auto-loading content.

Disabling "Download shared folders" in account settings.

Archiving or moving older emails out of the active folder.

Switching to "Cached Exchange Mode" if not already enabled.

Keeping mailbox size manageable by regularly cleaning up.

These steps can help reduce lag from large, active threads.
